Discover - Vote by Mail

Based on lessons learned, a vote-by-mail (VBM) digital ad campaign should be initiated at least two (2) weeks prior to ballots being mailed.
As everyone knows, vote-by-mail regulations and voting windows differ from State-to-State. This page sets forth processes to maximize your campaign exposure to vote-by-mail voters.

We've seen two (2) major psychological differences of registered voters using the vote-by-mail method to cast their ballot. They are, 1) pre-crastinator and, 2) procrastinator.

A pre-crastinator is a person who it timely and efficient. They receive their ballot in the mail and pomptly return it.

A procrastinator is just the opposite. For whatever reason they wait till the last minute to return they completed ballot.

Unfortinately, there is no means to identify them by their voting records. To maximize your digital ad budgets Campaign Matrix recommends the following:

  • Phase 1- Initiate your digital ad campaign at least Two (2) weeks prior to ballots being mailed with an end date One (1) week thereafter.
  • Phase 2 - Initiate the second phase of your digital ad campaign Ten (10) days prior to the end period of vote-by-mail.
  • In between, Phases 1 & 2 digital ad campaigns are quiet (it is not necessary to display ads in the middle).
This approach follows the basic saddle curve taught in most of the business schools marketing classes.  It works...

SPECIAL NOTE: In a crowded primary field, candidate branding (a digital ad campaign) should start much earlier that Two (2) week prior to ballots being mailed.  Putting your name in front of voters is critical (even if they don't click on the banner and visit your campaign website).
